Dorset, I Hope

Signs in photographs are often very useful. Signposts help with location, with this shot which, we are told, was taken two miles from Cerne Abbas, one and a half miles from Alton Pancras, four miles from Buckland Newton, thirteen and a half miles from Sturminster Newton, two miles from Piddlehinton and seven and a half miles from Dorchester. I think that makes it in Dorset, I hope!

The New Inn is, I believe, in Cerne Abbas. The signpost indicates that it is certainly somewhere between Buckland Newton and Dorchester.

Now the final shot for this post proves more difficult. There is one road sign on the far right but it is too far away to read. So if anyone recognises the thatched cottage and church, perhaps you could let me know.

Moving East

The first photo this time is almost certainly on the Norfolk Broads but exactly where, I don’t know.
As for the boats, someone told me that the sailing boats were wherries but I thought that they were bigger. Perhaps you could leave a comment and let me know your thoughts.

With this picture of the Rose & Crown Hotel I am more certain as I have found it in Google Maps Streetview. It is in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire and has hardly changed since this was taken in 1964.

Finally I have a photo that tells me where it was taken, Olney in Buckinghamshire. This is a view of Olney Station on the Northampton – Olney – Bedford LMS Line. It was taken in 1961.
You can see this very picture on the Olney and District Historical Society website where Mike Neale is using it to help illustrate an article by his father, Ivor, about the railway line.
